Ballywillan Flute Band, founded in Portrush , Co. Antrim in 1884 is today still one of the strongest bands in the area. The band takes part in numerous activities including Contests, Parades, Concerts and have even been known to perform at weddings. The music played is all part music and can range from ballads to overtures. Most are unaware of the many types of flutes available. In Ballywillan we use piccolo , G treble, C flute (the most common of the flute family) Alto G and C Bass . We have recently taken delivery of two Contra Bass Flutes which will add more depth to the sound of the band. We meet in Ballywillan Orange Hall every Tuesday evening at 7.45 and are constantly on the lookout for new members. The Learners class commences at 7.00pm each Tuesday evening where we offer free tuition and loan of a flute. For further details please contact the secretary. An alternative night for learners may be considered if Tuesday does not suit, please contact the secretary.
